Dr. John Cooper, senior lecturer at the University of York, will give a talk on November 9 as part of his week-long residence at the University of Nebraska.
His most recent project focuses on St. Stephen’s Chapel at Westminster, which he will discuss in his lecture, “Investigating the Palace of Westminster: history, art and architecture 1292-1941.” The lecture will be held in the Andrews Hall, Bailey Library, at 5:15 p.m.
He completed a M.A. in history as a Thouron Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in history from Oxford University. His research focuses on the political, religious and cultural history of sixteenth-century England. He is also interested in the history of early colonial America and Ireland. Cooper writes for the Times Literary Supplement and is the author of Propaganda and the Tudor State: Political Culture in the West Country and The Queen’s Agent: Francis Walsingham at the Court of Elizabeth I.
Cooper's residence is part of an exchange between the Center for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies at the University of York and the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program.
