Majors: History, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Classics and Religious Studies
Year in school: Junior
Hometown: Herman, NE
Why did you select your majors? Were there any experiences that convinced you to declare?
I've always liked history, but my freshman year I was a little lost as for what to do with it. One of the first classes I took in college though was the about the history of the Vikings, which I actually took at UNK. This convinced me to transfer to UNL where there was a Medieval and Renaissance Studies program. I later picked up Classics and Religious Studies as minors and decided to bump these up into a major, because I loved Greek history and looking at how religion influences history and vice versa.
What is your favorite course you have taken from your programs and why?
I took the Viking World during my freshman year at UNK, and this course really made me realize what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I've like history, but I have never been very focused on a certain period. This class got me obsessed with the Middle Ages, and now that's what I'm majoring in and hoping to study in grad school.
Do you have research experience?
This winter I worked on a small research experience and developed my own podcast on Alfred the Great and Early Medieval England.
Have you had an internship/job?
I tutor American, Medieval, and Classical history for the Athletic Department, so my majors have definitely helped ensure I know the content and improved my communication with students.
What are you involved in on campus?
I work at the Recreation and Wellness Center and as a tutor for the Athletic Department.
I am a member of Tau Sigma, the Honor's Program, and the College of Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Board.
What are your plans after graduation?
I am hoping to pursue a masters and PhD in Medieval Studies. From there I hope to work in education and research on the university level.
