I am the Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professor of French in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. My research focuses on early modern literature and cultural studies, with a particular emphasis on women’s writing. My forthcoming book, Fictions of Resistance: Marguerite de Navarre’s Heptameron, will appear in the Early Modern Feminisms series (University of Delaware Press). It argues that Marguerite de Navarre uses fiction to directly and intentionally respond to contemporary legal and religious documents. Reading a large corpus of sixteenth-century legal and religious texts alongside the Heptameron, Fictions of Resistance argues that Marguerite de Navarre’s deep knowledge of ongoing and proposed reforms across Europe allows her to advocate for changes that would safeguard women. At UNL, I teach graduate and undergraduate courses on body language, women’s writing, the Renaissance, fairy tales, and happiness in French literature and culture.
